October 2018 Rust Alert

Dry September conditions have stressed many lawns which are now showing the fungal disease known as rust

Disease Warning for Rust

This is a common disease associated with stressed turf in late summer and early autumn. The exceptionally dry weather during September has caused the stressed conditions resulting in an outbreak of rust. In places the attack is quite severe and very noticeable with enlarging patches of yellow grass leaves speckled with orange. At least when you see it you'll know it for what it is.

With the cooler wetter conditions it is now possible to give the lawn some assistance to recover. If you haven't already done so, it would be beneficial to fertilise the lawn with an autumn feed. This will enable some late growth so that the diseased leaves can be mown out. No lasting damage should occur.
