Creatures Great & Small
A real garden friend
There are many other creatures that use or visit your lawn causing next to no damage. Birds may do a little excavating for bugs and squirrels may bury their nuts. No lasting damage is done and much pleasure can be gained from their behaviour.
The fox, badger and hedgehog may pass through and as long as you don’t have a lawn full of chafer or leather jacket grubs they’ll leave it alone.
In addition, as rabbits become more common and myxomatosis has less effect then rabbits are enjoying lawns more and more. They rarely do damage apart from a little bit of digging around the borders. If this is a problem then I suggest you watch the cookery programme ‘Kill it, Cook it, Eat it’!
Finally there are a couple of other creatures that can cause some damage such as the Fever Fly or Frit Fly. In the farming and sports turf industry they can be a problem and though they are common insects you or I are unlikely to be troubled by them.
