Grass Mowing Tips & Tricks
Don't try this at home!
- If you need to do your grass cutting in wet conditions, drag a section of garden hose over the lawn to ‘squeegee’ off the dew or rain drops before mowing
- Raise the grass mowing height in times of stress; high temperatures, drought, water logging and winter
- If you don’t like mowing raise the mowing height…the grass will grow slower
- You can leave the box off for ‘light’ cuts in the summer if weeds aren’t seeding
- If the lawn has a ‘silver sheen’ after grass cutting then the blades need sharpening
- Do a final cut around the perimeter of the lawn once or twice to remove turn marks
- If the lawn mower has a roller change mowing direction at least every month
- If the lawn mower has wheels, avoid mowing in the same wheel track every time otherwise you'll create tramlines
- If the lawnmower is a hover mower just push it to cut, don’t push and pull
- Slightly overlapping each run up and down the lawn gives a tidier look
- If the grass is damp or long slow down your walking speed (not the blade speed)
